Why do you want to be a tutor?
- I've been tutoring since I was in high school, because I love the satisfaction of helping a student feel like they've improved. I enjoy finding the best way to explain something - the way that makes it click. And that's different for everyone.
Why should a student pick you?
- I'm an experienced writing tutor - I've had training on how to get a student through every step in the writing process, from brainstorming to formulating a thesis to final editing, and I've spent a lot of time putting it into practice. I can help you with writing in any subject!
I worked as a peer writing tutor at the Hume Writing Center at Stanford University for two years, tutoring undergraduate and graduate students. In high school, I tutored fellow high school and middle school students in a variety of subjects.
And I love the French language. While I'm not a native speaker, I've studied the language for many years, and I've also lived and worked in France. I keep it up with French-speaking friends; it's really a part of my daily life. And unlike a native speaker, I've had to go through the process of learning it myself, just like you will, so I know just how to make sense of it to an English speaker.
Personal Statement:
- Language is how we understand life, and if you can find energy in it, you can understand all of your studies better. Doing better in classes and on tests is great, but even better is finding a way to make what you learn studying into something that improves other aspects of your life.
Any Last Words?
- My degree from Stanford is called Comparative Literature, which means I studied literature from a global point of view, and took classes in both French and English.
